Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, affectionately known as Jorji, began her adventure at the 2024 Paris Olympics by competing in Group G. In her first match, she defeated Polina Buhrova from Ukraine with a score of 21-10 and 21-15.

Then, she also defeated Tereza Svabikova from the Czech Republic with a score of 21-21 and 21-18, thus emerging as the group champion.

In the round of 16, Gregoria faced Kim Ga Eun from South Korea and managed to win with a score of 21-4, 8-21, 23-21. In the quarter-finals, she faced Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand and won with a score of 25-23 and 21-9.

However, her journey stumbled in the semifinals when she faced An Se-young, the top seed who ultimately won the gold medal. This match ended with a score of 21-11, 13-21, and 16-21.

In the bronze medal match, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung did not need to compete because Carolina Marin, her opponent in the semifinals, withdrew due to injury. Thus, Gregoria automatically received the bronze medal without having to participate in the match.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung expressed that this bronze medal holds a very valuable meaning for her and Indonesia. She mentioned that this medal is a birthday gift for her and Indonesia, as well as the greatest achievement in her badminton career.

"This medal also means a lot to me because it represents the efforts of many people. It’s also a birthday gift for me next week and for Indonesia on August 17," said Gregoria in an official statement from the Indonesian Olympic Committee.
