Having Many Children, Here’s Sahrul Gunawan’s Plan Regarding Adding More Kids

Sahrul Gunawan and Dine Mutiara are building a large family consisting of five children from their previous marriages. The challenge of uniting two families has become part of their journey as a married couple.

"It seems like we’re not planning to have more kids anymore, because I think we already have 5 children. I have 3, and Dine has 2. This year alone, 2 are graduating from elementary school and 2 from high school," said Sahrul Gunawan in the Tendean area of South Jakarta, Tuesday (13/5/2025).

They have also started to think about the needs of their children who are currently entering an important phase in their education and development. The desire to have another child had emerged, but now it is starting to be subdued in order to focus on the children they already have.

"I thought it was strange. At first, I was okay with it, it seemed nice to have a toy, it seemed fun. But our children have a greater desire to be noticed. But if they get it, Alhamdulillah, if not, then it's not a must. Because of their age as well," he said.

Another challenge is the different living locations of the children. Sahrul's children live with their mother in Jakarta, while Sahrul and Dine live in Bandung.

"It's a bit difficult because of the location. Because my children are with their mother in Jakarta. I am in Bandung and I am closer on a daily basis to my children who are in Bandung," said Sahrul.

Even so, every time they gather, the relationship among the children is very close. Dine describes them as like close friends who have known each other for a long time.

"But when they meet, they blend right in. It's almost like best friends of the same age," said Dine Mutiara.

This closeness even makes them miss each other, even if they are only apart for a short time. Sahrul shared how the kids want to visit and gather together despite being hindered by school activities.

"Especially the youngest, they want to go to Bandung, while the others want to go to Jakarta. Like now, they want to go to Jakarta, but they have exams tomorrow, so they can't. They are very close, they're like best friends who just graduated from elementary school," said Sahrul.
