Lenggogeni Faruk was born on October 29, 1972 in Pekanbaru, Riau. She is the third child out of five siblings born to Umar Faruk bin Haji Muhd Zein and Yulfia binti Azhari bin Abbas.
Coming from a fairly affluent family, the woman affectionately known as Geni continued her studies at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia. It was at this campus that she met her beloved, Halilintar Anofial Asmid, who is now her husband.
