Ida Iasha Profile: A Movie Star of the 80s, Started Career as a Model

Ida Iasha, whose real name is Ida Albertina van Suchtelen van de Haere, was born on May 14, 1963, in Zwijndrecht, Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is the third child of five siblings, with a unique family background. Her father, Adrianus Jacobus Constan van Suchtelen van de Haere, was a trumpet player and Head of Research at Unilever Netherlands, born in Pekalongan, Central Java. Meanwhile, her mother, Thelma Gassner, has Dutch and Javanese ancestry.

In June 1980, after graduating from HAVO (Higher General Secondary Education) in the Netherlands, Ida and her family moved to Indonesia and settled in Kemang, Jakarta. When her family returned to the Netherlands, Ida chose to stay and continue her education at **SMA Tarakanita 1 Jakarta, as well as taking a short course in Indonesian at Indonesia College. Ida started her career as a model and became known to the public after being introduced by Martha Tilaar to Sarinah Magazine in 1986. Her exotic face often appeared on magazine covers, attracting the attention of Slamet Rahardjo, who then invited her to star in the film Kodrat. Her stage name, Ida Iasha, was given by the director because she was still struggling to pronounce her new name after converting to Islam, Ida Aisyah.

The film Kodrat became the gateway to Ida's success in the Indonesian film industry. Her popularity skyrocketed, leading to an influx of film offers. In one year, she managed to star in four films. In addition, her face also became an icon for various products, including being the advertisement star for Lux, which at that time was known as the beauty soap for stars.

After giving birth to her first child, Rendy Russell Syahputra, on September 24, 1984, Ida remained active in the entertainment world. Her career shone brighter with her roles in various films and commercials. However, on December 25, 1990, after the birth of her second child, Kama Bashkara, Ida decided to take a break from the entertainment industry.

A year later, she returned to acting in two films with Rhoma Irama, then ventured into the soap opera world by starring in Salah Asuhan (1993), produced by Marissa Haque. Amidst her busy schedule, Ida gave birth to her third child, Remyzard Adi Putra, on June 1, 1994. After that, she took another two-year hiatus to focus on raising her three children.

In 1996, she returned to acting in the soap opera Kembang Setaman, which was filmed in Beijing. A year later, her fourth son, Badra Rahadi Putra, was born. After that, Ida focused more on her personal life and briefly became a Brand Ambassador for Telkomsel in 1998, which successfully boosted the sales of the simPATI cards.

At the beginning of her career in the film industry in the 80s, Ida did not use her own voice due to her limitations in speaking Indonesian and her strong Dutch accent. Her voice was often dubbed by Ivonne Rose, Dewi Yull, Ivo Nilakreshna, or Maria Oentoe.

However, in the films Kasmaran, Perempuan Kedua, and Sajadah Ka'bah, she finally used her original voice. Meanwhile, in the soap opera world, her voice can be heard in Salah Asuhan and Kembang Setaman.

Although she is no longer active in the entertainment world, the name Ida Iasha is still remembered as one of the top actresses of the 80s who successfully built a brilliant career in Indonesia.
