The Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs has announced plans to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to identify illegal sites providing manga & anime services. This plan is supported by a budget of 300 million yen, equivalent to 31 billion rupiah, as an effort to protect the intellectual property rights of manga and anime creators.

This AI system aims to simplify the detection of piracy sites and improve the efficiency of legitimate takedown requests. "Identifying piracy sites manually is time-consuming, costly, and has its limits. By building more effective preventive measures, we aim to reduce piracy sites and enhance the protection of copyright holders," the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs explained the decision.

Japan will train AI to recognize pirated websites by analyzing their layout, ads that appear, and content patterns. This system will also use image recognition to detect the unauthorized use of manga and anime materials.
