Comedy legend Indro Warkop revealed the main reason behind the selection of Deddy Mahendra Desta to portray the late Dono in the Warkop DKI film. According to Indro, besides the fact that Desta is a huge fan, another crucial factor is Desta's bravery in accepting a role that had been rejected by many other candidates.

This decision, Indro stated, is the result of a mutual agreement between Falcon Pictures and the Warkop DKI Institution, which seriously sought the most suitable figure. Desta's closeness to the spirit of Warkop became one of the main considerations.

"We really chose the closest one and thank God it was Desta," said Indro Warkop at the Falcon Pictures office, Friday (14/11/2025).

Indro admitted to being impressed by Desta's extensive knowledge about Warkop DKI. This proves that Desta is not just an actor who takes on roles, but a true fan who understands the history of the legendary comedy group.

"It turns out that Desta is a huge fan of Warkop. So when I talked about him, he knew a lot about Warkop," he explained.

However, Indro then revealed a surprising fact behind the scenes. He stated that playing a member of Warkop is a huge burden.

Many actors who were considered before chose to back out because they were afraid to take on that risk.

"When I threw it over there, was he brave enough? Many people are not brave because of that, many back out before the match. 'Oh no, I'm not brave enough,'" said Indro.

Although there was a joke that Desta was the 221st choice, Indro emphasized that Desta's courage to step forward when others backed down was a very significant advantage in the decision-making process. "He (Desta) was the 221st," he concluded, then laughed.
