Ismail Marzuki's Heirs Request 'Hello Kuala Lumpur' Song to Be Taken Down

Kapanlagi.com - The heirs of the song Halo Halo Bandung, Rachmini, along with their legal representation, have taken legal action when Ismail Marzuki's song was copied and went viral on social media. The highlighted song is Hello Kuala Lumpur, which was apparently created and uploaded since 2018 and 2020.

Not wanting to stay silent, Ismail Marzuki's heirs requested the assistance of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) to handle this case.

"On September 26, 2023, we officially filed a report for the closure of the content and rights to the song Hello Kuala Lumpur," said Ari Juliano Gema, Rachmini's legal representative, during a press conference in the Gatot Subroto area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (27/9/2023).

"We included evidence and proof of the heirs, and it has been received by the DJKI," he added.

1. Considered Harmful to Moral Rights

The heirs are very hopeful that the action of removing the video Hello Kuala Lumpur can be done immediately because it is considered harmful to moral rights. Until now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Malaysia are actively investigating this case and searching for the perpetrator.

“Once the perpetrator is found, we can start considering further legal steps, especially if the perpetrator is from the private sector,” said Ari.

2. Malaysia Has Denied

Furthermore, the Malaysian government has denied that the song Hello Kuala Lumpur belongs to them. Therefore, the heirs of Ismail Marzuki suspect that the perpetrator of this song plagiarism is likely a private individual.

The heirs of Ismail Marzuki also suspect that this action violates Article 58 paragraph 1 of the Copyright Law, and they are committed to protecting the artistic heritage rights of the Indonesian maestro.
