"Oh my God, I no longer have a credit card, thank God I am so happy. It all started when I was told that before going on pilgrimage, one should not have debts, there should be no debts," said Igun when met on Jalan Percetakan Negara, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (12/7/2025).
The biggest concern that haunted him at that time was the risk of dying in the Holy Land while still having debts. This was what motivated him to settle all his obligations immediately. Ivan Gunawan's pilgrimage journey turned out to be more than just an act of worship. He experienced a profound transformation moment that changed his perspective on personal finance.

"What am I afraid of? Dying there or not being able to pay off my debts," he continued.
At that time, Igun admitted to still having about five to six credit cards. Before leaving, he made sure all bills were settled. Upon returning from the pilgrimage, he took further steps by closing all those cards one by one.
"So when I was about to go on pilgrimage, I paid everything off... when I got back, I closed them one by one and thank God I now have no credit cards," he said with relief.

Although still having other installments like a house, Igun now holds a new and simpler financial principle. For him, desires must be aligned with the available capabilities. His life principle is now much simpler and anti-drama. He no longer wants to impose his will if he does not have sufficient funds.
"My principle is if you don't have money, don't buy. So if there isn't any, don't create a need. If there is, just buy it cash," concluded Ivan Gunawan. This is a big step towards living more freely and peacefully.
