Kaka Slank Chooses Farming at the Foot of Mount Salak to 'Recharge'

Life as a rockstar, filled with spotlight and loud studio sounds, makes Kaka Slank need a place to 'recharge' his energy. His choice falls on gardening activities in the Tamansari area, at the foot of Mount Salak, Bogor.

For Kaka, getting down to the soil and planting vegetables is the most effective healing method. This activity is in stark contrast to his routine with the band Slank.

"Yes, that's right. It’s really contrasting with life on stage. It’s nice. I mean, my life is fun like that, I recharge there, then go back to Slank. When I get stressed in the studio, I recharge there," said Kaka when met by KapanLagi in Potlot, South Jakarta, on Friday (6/5/2026).

This 5,000 square meter land has now become his escape when he feels tired of the entertainment routine. Kaka admits he really enjoys the process of learning directly from local farmers in the surrounding village.

Kaka is not shy to ask and seek help from the locals who better understand the characteristics of the soil in Bogor. He combines the traditional knowledge of the locals with references from agricultural books he has read.

"In the beginning, I asked for help from the people in the village while observing. Then I based on my book to inform them, 'Can you do it like this?," he said.

This change also had a significant impact on Kaka's perspective on life. Since he became active in gardening, he feels he has become a more patient person and appreciates the process more.

Kaka shares how he initially felt frustrated seeing the growth of his plants, which felt very slow. However, over time, he realized that nature has its own timing that cannot be rushed.

"Sometimes when I see people in a hurry, I feel like asking 'Why are you in such a rush?'. Because usually when I look at (plants), I'm like, 'Wow, it's taking so long'. Back then, I used to get so impatient, you know, every day I look and nothing seems to grow. Watching corn and it doesn't come out," reminisced Kaka.

Kaka emphasized that his decision to have a garden does not mean he wants to take a break from the music world. For him, the lifestyle of going back and forth between the city and the garden is the perfect happiness at the moment.

"Some people say, 'Are you preparing for retirement?'. I don't think I've thought about retiring yet. For me... not really, but just thinking about going back and forth makes me happy," concluded Kaka.
