In her pursuit of justice, Karina Ranau also has to face negative accusations from some netizens. Some parties believe that the incident she experienced is merely a marketing strategy to boost her restaurant's popularity.
Karina expressed sadness and confusion over this assumption. According to her, it's impossible for someone to intentionally harm themselves for the sake of promotion.
"So many netizens are saying 'This is marketing,' they said, 'This is a gimmick to make her restaurant busy.' Oh my God... don't they see that I've been working since morning? I'm taking care of this many children. If I were marketing, why would I exhaust myself here, not marketing at my restaurant instead?" said Karina Ranau when met in the Kalibata area on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
Karina emphasized that the incident occurred spontaneously and was not something that was staged.
"That means everything happened was indeed not set up or spontaneous in any way. The family members were also here earlier, crying. It is what it is. So I feel caught in a difficult position," she explained.
In addition to denying the gimmick allegations, Karina also defended her employees who became targets of negative comments on social media. She does not accept that her staff is said to have not helped during the incident.
"One more thing, I do not accept if netizens say my employees are weak, sissies, or whatever. Just ask them directly about their actions yesterday. Because I was stressed yesterday, I couldn’t think straight, I was dizzy, it was dark," Karina asserted.
According to her, everyone has different responses when facing situations that occur very quickly and are terrifying. Therefore, she still appreciates what her employees have done during the incident.
"What they did is something only they know how to act. No matter what you say, I will defend them," concluded Karina.
