Kapanlagi.com - Marcell Darwin does not feel insecure because his son, Benjamin Qeenan, understands religion faster. On the contrary, he feels motivated not to fall behind his son. After converting to Islam, he admits that learning to read the Quran is a unique challenge because it requires extra effort, unlike children who quickly absorb information.

“It’s not insecurity but I don’t want to lose, my child can do it so why can’t I? So I converted to Islam, learning a new language is a bit difficult,” said Marcell Darwin when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, on Monday (30/9/2024).

“Children are able to absorb a lot of input and digest it easily, while I have to memorize the readings, find out what the meanings are, and I’m also afraid of making mistakes,” he added.

Marcell learns with his wife and family, and attends religious lessons with his son, even though the process is slower. He also feels proud to see his son who can read the holy verses at the age of 3 or 4 years.

“So far I have been learning with my wife and family, I learn together with my child but it can’t be immediate, it has to be the next step. My son is in elementary school, for example, my religious lessons are the same as his,” he said.

1. Guided by the Wife

Learning to read the Quran for Marcell involves patience, as he follows steps like learning Iqro from the beginning with his child.

“My wife taught me how to read the holy verses for the first time, so I joined in like learning Iqro slowly, if Qeenan can, maybe together,” he said.

Every night, he and his child learn short surahs with his wife's guidance. Although it is not easy, Marcell remains enthusiastic because he wants to set a good example and create precious moments with his family.

“Mom always teaches him to memorize short surahs, there is a target every day. Before sleeping, there is a reading of short surahs, yes he can read Surah Al-Ikhlas and others, at least 6-7 surahs,” said Marcell Darwin.

2. A Special Pride

For Marcell, his child's success in reading the Quran at an early age is a source of special pride. He feels that religious education is an important aspect that should be taught from a young age, and as a father, he strives to keep up with his child's development in a positive and supportive way.

“It's more about pride as a father, wow this child at the age of 3 or 4 can read verses, yes I'm happy,” he concluded.
