Musician Pongki Barata revealed the story behind his decision to move from Jakarta to Bali, which took place in 2016. The 46-year-old singer admitted that it was initially hard to leave Jakarta, but for his wife, Sophie Navita, everything became much easier.
"In 2016, my wife and I decided to move from Jakarta to Bali. To, what is it, in a way, take a break for a while," said Pongki when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (22/8/2024).
Pongki explained that the decision was also influenced by his wife's health condition.
Sophie experienced health issues, but after moving to Bali, her health greatly improved and she is now fully recovered.
Initially, they intended to stay in Bali only for a longer vacation. However, that decision evolved into a decision to settle permanently.
Pongki revealed that they left everything they had in Jakarta and completely moved to Bali, including changing their ID card to a Bali ID card. In Bali, Pongki felt a different atmosphere.
He noted that travel time in Bali is much more efficient compared to big cities like Jakarta.
"So, I have time, for example, in a big city. I need 1.5 hours from position A to position D. There, it might not take up to 1 hour. Well, the remaining time is for music production," he explained.
However, this move brings its own consequences, namely that all of Pongki's friends and work team are outside of Bali. This becomes an additional challenge for Pongki in coordinating with them.
Nevertheless, he tries to absorb positive energy from his new environment in Bali to remain productive.
After settling in Bali, Pongki and Sophie decided to try their luck in the business world. They opened a coffee shop named Pepita & Sons, featuring a signature menu of vegan donuts.
"I opened a coffee shop with Sophie, with my wife, named Pepita & Sons. The flagship menu is vegan donuts," said Pongki when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, Thursday (22/8/2024).
