Mahen Tells His Life Story Through an Album, A Story

Kapanlagi.com - Petrus Mahendra, or better known as Mahen, finally released his debut album as proof of his existence in the Indonesian music industry. The singer, who became known at the end of 2019 through the song 'Pura-Pura Lupa', named his debut album 'A Story'.

There are 10 songs in the album 'A Story'. Out of the 10 songs, there are five singles that have been released and five new singles. Interestingly, unlike many musicians who always experience their stories before turning them into songs, Mahen actually experienced the stories from his songs after they were released to the market.

"So why is this album called 'A Story'? Because these are stories that I have experienced, more precisely, I experienced them after I released them," Mahen said during a press conference at KFC Kemang recently.

1. More Cheerful Album Nuances

The album 'Sebuah Cerita' is the result of a great collaboration between Indosemar Records and KFC Jagonya Musik dan Sport Indonesia (JMSI). Mahen is known as a skilled singer in delivering heartbreak songs such as 'Pura-Pura Lupa,' 'Datang Untuk Pergi,' 'Cinta Selesai,' and 'It's Okay To Not Be Okay.' However, in this album, Mahen also sings songs with a cheerful and more upbeat nuance.

"I have released 5 songs with sad and heartbreak nuances, and in this album, there are also songs with a happy mood, and I personally wrote some of the songs in this album," he explained.

2. Having Unique Character

Meanwhile, Steve Lillywhite, CEO of KFC Jagonya Musik dan Sport Indonesia, has been monitoring Mahen for a long time. According to him, Mahen has a unique character as a singer. Behind his tough appearance with tattooed body, Mahen's voice and songs are actually more mellow.

"We have been monitoring Mahen for a while and in my opinion, he is unique, his appearance is like a bad boy because he has tattoos, but he has a voice like an angel," said Steve.

3. Interesting Artwork Cover

Contradiction between appearance and the songs performed by Mahen can also be seen from the artwork cover of the album 'Sebuah Cerita' (A Story). Dominated by purple color, the cover of 'Sebuah Cerita' is filled with flower ornaments and does not display Mahen's fierce figure and muscular body.

"In the album cover, there are flowers, if we look closely, the flowers here are withered and these are thorny roses that we know. There are also blooming flowers, butterflies, flowers are living creatures, they can die if not taken care of. Here we can feel the flowers blooming well, we have a fun romance. But we are not always happy. Honestly, I want to be healthy, prosperous, but we don't know when we will fall. That's why I explain it with the withered rose," explained Mahen.
