Nia Ramadhani and Ardi Bakrie Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison, Deemed Not Qualified as Addicts and Victims

Kapanlagi.com - The panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court has found Nia Ramadhani, Ardi Bakrie, and their driver Zen Vivanto guilty of drug abuse, Tuesday (12/1/2022).

"The defendants Zen Vivanto, Ramadhania Ardiansyah Bakrie, and Aninda Ardiansyah Bakrie are lawfully and convincingly guilty of committing the criminal act of abusing first-class narcotics for personal use, which they did together," said the panel of judges.

Therefore, the panel of judges decided to impose a one-year prison sentence on all three of them.

"Imposing a sentence on the defendants Zen Vivanto, Ramadhania Ardiansyah Bakrie, and Aninda Ardiansyah Bakrie, with each of them receiving a one-year prison sentence," said the judge.

1. Prosecutor's Demands Rejected

In the verdict, the Panel of Judges rejected the demands of the Public Prosecutor who requested the three defendants to be sentenced to 12 months of rehabilitation.

In their considerations, the judges assessed that the three defendants do not qualify as addicts and victims of drug abuse who need rehabilitation.

"Because the defendants do not qualify as addicts and victims of narcotics, the rehabilitation they have undergone cannot be counted as part of their sentence," said the judge.

The judge imposed a one-year prison sentence on the three defendants after considering aggravating and mitigating factors.

"Aggravating, the defendants' actions do not support the government's efforts to combat drugs, defendants 2 and 3 as public figures who should set a good example for society but behave otherwise," said the judge.

"On the other hand, mitigating factors include the fact that the defendants have not been previously convicted and they admit and promise not to repeat their actions. The defendants also have family responsibilities," the judge added.

After hearing the verdict, Nia Ramadhani immediately cried. She couldn't hide her sadness. Her tears kept flowing even as she walked out of the courtroom.

4. Nervousness

Moments before sitting in the defendant's chair, Nia and Ardi answered questions from the media about their preparations in facing the judge's verdict.

"We'll see later. Yes, we have to be sincere. Just surrender," said Nia Ramadhani.

"Nervous, yes. Just pray for the best," added Ardi Bakrie.

5. Previously Rehabilitated

As known, Nia Ramadhani, her husband Ardi Bakrie, and their driver, Zen Vivanto, were apprehended by the Central Jakarta Metro Police narcotics unit on July 7, 2021.

The three were arrested after using methamphetamine together. During the arrest, the police confiscated 0.5 grams of used methamphetamine and the paraphernalia.

After undergoing examination, on July 10, 2021, based on the recommendation of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the three underwent 4 months of rehabilitation at a rehabilitation center in the Bogor area.
