Nikita Mirzani's Trial Heats Up, Judge Warns Witness for Inconsistency & Rambling Answers

The atmosphere of the ongoing trial concerning Nikita Mirzani at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (18/9/2025) suddenly became tense. Not due to the debate between the prosecutor and the lawyer, but because a witness presented by Nyai became the center of attention after receiving a direct warning from the Chief Judge.

This moment occurred during the examination of a witness named Sumarni. Chief Judge Khairul Imam felt the need to give a firm admonition as he assessed that the answers provided by Sumarni were often inconsistent and seemed to forget important details too easily.

The trigger was none other than the witness's convoluted answers when asked about several crucial facts in the trial. Seeing this, Judge Khairul Imam did not remain silent and immediately issued a warning in the midst of the proceedings.

"Here's the thing, if asked and you know, then answer, right? The recording has also been listened to. It has been asked, what did you know about it earlier? An agreement, asking for help, that's how it is," said Khairul Imam.

The judge sternly reminded that Sumarni had taken an oath, which means she has an absolute obligation to provide honest testimony. He differentiated between forgetfulness that is human and forgetfulness that is intentional to conceal the truth.

"We remind you that you are under oath. Forgetting is human, but if the forgetting is intentional, not wanting to tell the truth, you are under oath. Do not let there be safety and home at stake. We remind you of this," he emphasized.

What is more striking is that the judge also mentioned Sumarni's status as a housewife. According to him, this status should not be used as a shield or an excuse to provide inaccurate testimony under oath.

"Many here are housewives too. You are not the only one who is a housewife. Don't use it as an excuse, 'As a housewife, I forgot.' Isn't that right?" he added.

Furthermore, the judge explained that the presence of a witness in court is to assist the court in seeking justice. If a witness deliberately lies, then that noble purpose will not be achieved and it could have negative consequences for the witness themselves.

"You came here to earn rewards, to help us solve problems, but when you intentionally know something and then claim to forget, what can we expect from you? You are sworn in, yes. Don't forget," he said at length.

After that firm advice, the trial continued with a more in-depth examination of the witness Sumarni.
