A strong life principle is demonstrated by the veteran magician Pak Tarno in the midst of his struggle against the effects of a stroke. Despite his economic and health conditions not being good, he firmly refuses to rely on the compassion of others by begging or asking for donations.
For Pak Tarno, working hard by selling toys is far more noble than having to hold out his hand. He believes that as long as he is still able to move, he is obligated to strive on his own without violating the religious rules he has always believed in regarding independence in earning a living.
