Otto Malik, the Son of Vice President Adam Malik, Passed Away; Shyalimar Malik Remembers His Wise Figure

His son, Otto Malik, breathed his last on Saturday (25/1/2025) early in the morning at RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, after battling a stroke he suffered. Otto was buried that afternoon at TPU Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta.

Shyalimar Malik, one of Otto Malik's grandchildren, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of her grandfather. When met after the funeral on Saturday (25/1/2025), Shyalimar shared stories about her grandfather's dignified and wise character.

“I received the news at 12 midnight that my grandfather passed away,” Shyalimar said with eyes still wet from tears.

Otto Malik, known as a friendly and respected individual, had long suffered from various complications before finally passing away. Shyalimar explained that her grandfather struggled with serious illnesses in his old age.

“There are many pains, complications from diabetes, heart, lungs, and others,” said Shyalimar in a sorrowful tone.

For Shyalimar, Otto Malik was a grandfather figure who was highly respected by the family and those around him. She recounted how Otto always provided valuable advice to all his grandchildren, including the importance of living with an open heart and free from resentment.

“Grandpa Otto was an authoritative figure, respected by many, wise, and always taught all his grandchildren never to be angry and hold grudges against others,” Shyalimar reminisced.

Shyalimar also shared sweet memories with Otto Malik during his lifetime. Although perhaps simple, those moments remain an unforgettable part of her memories.

“There are memories with him, yes, as his grandchildren we were once cradled by him. Just like a grandfather to his grandchildren,” she reminisced with a small smile that concealed her sadness.

As a grandchild who deeply respects her grandfather, Shyalimar conveyed her best prayers for Otto Malik. She hopes that all the good deeds Otto performed during his lifetime receive the best rewards on the other side.

“May his good deeds be accepted by Allah, may those who knew him forgive any mistakes, whether intentional or unintentional, may he be accepted on His side,” she said with deep emotion.
