Since childhood, Light was raised with high expectations as a model child who always excelled in academics and behaved perfectly. This pressure may have contributed to his need to prove himself in extreme ways when he discovered the Death Note.

Light has a younger sister, Sayu Yagami, who loves him dearly. Light, although he seems to care for Sayu, does not hesitate to prioritize his mission as Kira over his family's well-being, showing how cold he can be when it comes to his personal goals.

Light is the son of Soichiro Yagami, the head of the Kira investigation team and a highly respected police officer. Although they have a loving relationship, Light unhesitatingly manipulates and hides Kira's identity from his father, even until the end.
