Petty Tunjungsari Admits to Feeling Inferior in Continuing the Career of Titiek Puspa: If Our Parents Have a Big Name, We Must Uphold It

Kapanlagi.com - As the child of an Indonesian music legend, Petty Tunjungsari has indeed felt inferior in continuing the career path of her mother, Titiek Puspa. She admits that mental pressure and expectations are a burden for her.

"Feeling inferior, the children feel inferior. So here it is. Well, if we are Javanese, if our parents have a big name. We must uphold it," she said when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, on Monday (14/4/2025).

Petty explained that the concept of 'nyonggo' in Javanese culture means to uphold or maintain the good name of the family, including in behavior in society and professional contributions.

"Upholding means helping to elevate, so first with our behavior in society we must maintain it," she continued.

1. Managerial Assistance

Not only maintaining her image in society, Petty also strives to assist in managerial and mental functions to preserve her mother's legacy.

"Secondly, in terms of management function, we can help, yes we assist in management function. Of course, more than that, mentally," she said.

2. Once Participated in Singing

Nevertheless, Petty once tried to follow in her mother's career footsteps by performing on stage. However, that experience made her realize that the entertainment world might not be the right path for her.

"Once, during the time when Vina Panduwinata had just emerged, I participated on stage, I sang," she revealed.

Unfortunately, technical issues with her voice became an obstacle that could not be ignored. She then decided to step back from the singing world.

"But then I found out that my high notes were breaking, and it turned out when I checked there was a little bit like mold on my voice," Petty explained.

3. Choosing More Behind the Scenes

The lack of support at that time made her not continue her steps in the entertainment world. She chose to support her mother's career from behind the scenes.

"So at that time, since I had no one to accompany me, I thought, that's it," she concluded.
