From Donald Trump to Prince William, the funeral of Pope Francis will be attended by other world figures from various countries.
The funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Peter's Square, Vatican, will be a historic moment attended by numerous world leaders from various countries.
Before that, on Wednesday (April 23) morning, the body of Pope Francis will be paraded in a procession led by the cardinals from the Casa Santa Marta Chapel to St. Peter's Basilica. The body will lie in an open casket until Friday (April 25) for the faithful who wish to pay their respects.
Before the procession begins, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo who leads the Vatican after the pope's death, will lead a prayer. The general public can visit St. Peter's Basilica from 11:00 AM to midnight on Wednesday, then Thursday from 7:00 AM to midnight, and finally from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Friday.
A number of heads of state/government leaders and royal family members have confirmed their attendance, including Prince William of the United Kingdom, President of the United States Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and First Lady Rosangela da Silva.
Also attending are President of Poland Andrzej Duda, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska, President of Argentina Javier Milei, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Belgium Bart De Wever, and Prime Minister Dick Schoof, among many others.Â
From Indonesia, President Prabowo will send the 7th President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono to attend the funeral of Pope Francis. This was conveyed by Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi to reporters at the State Secretary's office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (23/4/2025).
The Vatican has also released a photo of Pope Francis' body lying in the Casa Santa Marta Chapel, which has been his residence for 12 years of his papacy. He is wearing a red robe with the papal mitre on his head and a rosary in his hand.
