Potet Nova Eliza Reveals Natural Panic Attack While Filming Burial Scene in the Movie 'MAMA'

An unforgettable experience was faced by senior actress Nova Eliza while filming her latest horror movie, MAMA: MESSAGE FROM HELL. Playing the role of Mama Sari, Nova had to perform an extreme scene that triggered her old phobia, which is being in a grave.

This 45-year-old actress recounted how difficult that scene was. She admitted to having a phobia of tight spaces (claustrophobia), and that scene successfully caused her to experience a panic attack. Check out the full story below!

For Nova, this experience was so profound that she does not hesitate to call this film directed by Azhar Kinoi Lubis the most horror project she has ever starred in. The fear from the character Mama Sari seems to have seeped into real life.

"It turns out that in its execution, it still sticks. Because from the set side, it was already scary, and the costumes used also raised the level of fear," Nova Eliza said when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Thursday (10/7/2025).

The most tense moment occurred when she had to enter a grave hole that was made very realistically. Although she initially tried to muster her courage, her body could not lie. She experienced a panic attack on the shooting location.   "I have a phobia of small spaces. I was pretending to be brave while filming, but unexpectedly, I had a panic attack at that moment," she recalled.

Amazingly, Nova managed to control herself so as not to cause panic among the film crew. She chose to remain silent and regulate her breathing, a struggle she admitted was very difficult. Callista Arum, her co-star, witnessed how hard that moment was for Nova.

"My panic attack isn't the loud kind. It's more of a silent thing, because I also don't want to create an atmosphere or scene that could make others panic too," she explained.

After filming that heavy scene, Nova needed time to release the character and the trauma attached to it. She meditated and prayed to calm herself down again.

"Finally, it's more about self-meditation. Saying not to be too attached. So when stepping into the character, it's enough to just be there as Mama Sari," she concluded.
