Chronology of Maia Estianty's Divorce from Ahmad Dhani, Divorced via SMS - Marked by Domestic Violence Reports

It can be said that Dhani's statement about that evidence is not widely known to the public. So far, Maia and Dhani's household has been known to be troubled since 2006 and they officially divorced in 2008. Here is the chronology of their divorce.

1. Requested Divorce

In 2006, news of the marital troubles between Dhani and Maia began to surface publicly. The rumors intensified when Dhani mentioned that his father, Eddy Abdul Manaf, had asked him to divorce Maia.

"My father has been badmouthing me for a long time. He is also the one who asked me to divorce Maia twice. I don't like his attitude," said Dhani at a press conference held at the residence of the Deputy Chief of Police on Sunday (12/3/2006).

2. Divorce via SMS

At that time, Dhani admitted that he did not go through with the divorce because Maia had promised to give more attention to the children. However, in the end, in December 2006, he divorced Maia via SMS.

"Starting today, I forbid my body from touching your body," read Dhani's SMS.

Dhani's statement was followed by his admission at the end of January 2007. He confessed that he had been sleeping in separate beds from Maia. Their marital troubles became even more heated due to the news of Dhani's marriage to Mulan, which was confirmed by Dhani's own father, Edy Abdul Manaf.

3. Colored by Domestic Violence Cases

In January 2007, Mulan finally left Duo Ratu, although both she and Dhani continued to deny rumors of a relationship between them. The public was abuzz with speculation about the reasons for Maia and Dhani's separation.

In April 2007, their marriage was marked by a domestic violence case. Maia reported Dhani to the Metro Jaya Police for acts of domestic violence. Dhani denied the allegations of domestic violence, although he admitted to having slapped Maia on the head.

Dhani referred to it as punishment for Maia for having smoked in front of the children. Additionally, Dhani explained that his wife liked to drink alcohol and came home late in the morning.

4. File for Divorce

As time went by, Maia filed for divorce at the South Jakarta Religious Court in November 2007. After going through the court process, Maia and Dhani officially divorced in September 2008.

There were four decisions made, including, first, granting the divorce petition filed by the plaintiff (Maia); second, the custody of the children was awarded to the plaintiff; third, the joint assets were divided equally into two parts; and fourth, the defendant (Dhani) was required to provide support for the children amounting to Rp7.5 million per child per month.

Additionally, the provisional rights that Maia had previously filed were also granted by the panel of judges. This right was to leave the house for the safety of her children.

5. The Children Remain Living with Dhani

Although the custody of the children was awarded to Maia, Ahmad Dhani believes that this decision is not a legal decree, so he still has custody rights over his three 'champions'.

Dhani, who at that time was living with Al, El, and Dul, will still give Maia the opportunity to visit the children. However, with the stipulation that Maia cannot take them out of the house. Dhani eventually filed for cassation.

Since then, it has become difficult for Maia to meet her children. Even just to watch a movie together, the children must be accompanied by Dhani's appointed person.
