Rachel Maryam and Edwin Register Their Marriage Legally After 9 Years of Secret Marriage, Here's the Reason

Kapanlagi.com - Actress and politician Rachel Maryam and her husband, Edwin Aprihandono, have been secretly married since 2011. And in April 2020, Rachel announced her second pregnancy.

On Monday (3/8/2020), Rachel Maryam and Edwin's legal representatives, when met at the South Jakarta Religious Court, stated that their clients had submitted a request for the registration of their marriage. According to their legal representatives, both of them want their marriage to be registered and recognized by the state.

"I would like to inform you that at the request of Rachel and Edwin, it has been registered at the South Jakarta Religious Court, and today is the first hearing," said Dody Haryanto, the legal representative of Rachel and Edwin.

"The secret marriage is valid religiously, but it is necessary to register the secret marriage in order to obtain legal certainty and official recognition from the state as well," he added.

1. Want to Be a Role Model

Dody Haryanto said there is a reason why Rachel and Edwin registered their marriage after 9 years. According to him, his clients want to be a good role model by following the applicable law. 

"In 2011, they had a secret marriage. The reason is simple, besides being public figures as members of the council, of course, they want to set a good example, surely with clear and firm legal provisions," said Doddy.

"The secret marriage is not recorded by the state, that's why the applicant filed for marriage validation to obtain legal certainty and be recorded both religiously and legally, that's all," said Dody Haryanto, he added. 

2. Handed Over to Legal Counsel

Once again, Dody emphasized that the marriage was held at the request of Rachel Maryam and Edwin Aprihandono. Because the 40-year-old woman is currently pregnant, all matters are entrusted to legal representatives.

"Yes, I represent both of them to request legal certainty for the marriage," he said.
