Raffi Ahmad & GM Irene Sukandar Play Blind Chess in a Drift Car, Achieve MURI Record

Akbar Rais and Gilang Widya Pramana, as the initiators and organizers of the event, have successfully broken national and world records for the First Chess Match in Drifting Cars. This match combines two sports, namely chess and car racing.

Akbar Rais, as one of the coaches and founders of J99XAR Drifting School, has the innovation to promote chess again and introduce drifting to a larger extent in the eyes of the Indonesian society.

1. Raffi Ahmad Chess Duel

The chess match was held between presenter Raffi Ahmad and Women International Master Irene Sukandar inside a drifting car, along with national racers Akbar Rais and Danny Ferdito.

"This championship proves that GM Irene Sukandar is a professional because playing chess while in a drifting car will experience many distractions, making it very difficult to stay focused and concentrated," said Akbar Rais.

2. Irene Plays Chess While Drifting

For approximately 10 minutes, Irene Sukandar played chess against Raffi Ahmad. Irene was inside a drifting car, while Raffi was at the chess table with Irene's assistant.

Irene would instruct her assistant, who was sitting in front of Raffi, to move her chess pieces, and every time Raffi made a move, Irene's assistant would explain it to her through a handy talky inside the car. Despite trying to stay focused, Irene soon offered a draw to Raffi Ahmad due to feeling dizzy while being taken for a ride in the drifting car with Akbar Rais.

"I felt really dizzy, I was holding back the urge to vomit," Irene said when she got out of the car.

3. First Chess Record

Meanwhile, Raffi salutes Irene who was able to survive for 10 minutes playing chess in a drifting car, "I salute the Grand Master, who can predict the next move in the chessboard he plays."

The idea of ​​doing this chess duel originated from a conversation between Irene, the Genius Emperor, and Akbar Rais, a drifter and owner of the J99XAR drifting school. At the end of this event, it was realized and received an MURI award.

"This is the first chess record inside a clickrift car," said Deputy Director of MURI, Osmar Semesta Susilo, after the match.

The closing of this chess match event was attended by J99Corp business owner Gilang Widya Pramana as a supporter and provider of prizes for the match with a total of Rp 120 million.

"Because the result is a draw, we split the prize into two, Rp 60 million (for Irene) and Rp 60 million (for Raffi)," said Gilang.
