The teaser trailer for the film RAINBOW ON MARS was officially introduced in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (24/11). This moment became an opportunity for teenage actor Messi Gusti to share his long experience playing Pelangi, a character he has portrayed since he was in the 5th grade. This years-long journey has gained attention due to the film's unusual hybrid technology production.

Messi is now 15 years old and revealed that he has grown up alongside the character Pelangi. Since the early stages of production, he has been involved in various processes such as motion capture to Extended Reality (XR) shooting. The four-year age difference has strengthened his connection with Pelangi.

In the press conference, Messi acknowledged that shooting using XR technology is not an easy task. Challenges arose because he had to act without real props. He mentioned that the shooting area presented a different atmosphere from typical films.

"During the XR shoot, it was quite difficult. Because there was only a large background screen, and in front of me was a black screen," he said.

The difficulty made Messi rely heavily on his imagination when interacting with characters or digital objects that were not yet present. This situation demanded a high level of concentration, especially when he had to build emotions in complex scenes.

To assist in this process, Messi received guidance through workshops. He stated that this training was very meaningful in developing gestures and expressions that met the character's needs.

"Before shooting, we had a workshop. So I was helped by the older siblings who assisted me," she said.

Director Upi revealed the reason for choosing Messi as the main actor. She felt that their meeting was a match from the very early stages of development. "Meeting Messi felt like destiny for me; Messi was meant to be in 'Pelangi'," said Upi.

Upi also explained the technological approach used in the production. She emphasized that this film utilizes virtual production and game engines to create the Mars setting in real-time. According to her, this method presents a new form of children's film production in Indonesia with fresh visuals.

The use of this technology arises from the desire to present a local IP that can compete globally. This background serves as a strong foundation for the production team in developing the visual concept and character of the robot that will appear in the story.

This film involves more than 200 creative workers from Indonesia from various fields. This cross-team collaboration is one of the factors that makes Pelangi di Mars a highly anticipated project for family audiences.
