Randy Permana Accuses Taqy Malik of Hoarding Al-Qur'an Donations for Content

How Taqy Malik distributes Al-Qur'an donations in Saudi Arabia has received sharp criticism from Randy Permana. Randy alleged that there is hoarding of mushafs by the former husband of Salmafina Sunan. Instead of immediately distributing the donors' trust, it is suspected that the Al-Qur'an was first collected in the thousands to appear impressive when documented.

Randy explained that ethically, the trust of waqf should be implemented as soon as the funds are received. However, what is happening on the ground is suspected to be different. The accumulation of thousands of mushafs at one time has raised suspicion from Saudi police as it is considered an illegal trading activity in the holy area.

"The second problem is that he hoards them first until he has really collected 2,000 copies or 1,000 copies or 3,000 copies before he departs and distributes them. Meanwhile, the point is that when we receive the trust to distribute the copies, the congregation buys them today, we deliver them today, not waiting for a month or three weeks to gather before he departs and distributes them," said Randy Permana in a virtual press conference on Friday (13/2/2026).

According to Randy, the purpose of collecting thousands of copies is suspected to be solely for validation purposes on social media. By bringing dozens of cartons at once, it will appear as if the program is a huge success. However, Randy believes this poses significant risks to the safety of Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia.

"He needs validation, right? Bringing dozens of cartons to the mosque to make it look like many people have entrusted their copies to him. He needs content for that, we know. But that is prohibited by Saudi. Even the stores don't dare to do it," he said.

Randy also shared his experiences while accompanying Taqy in previous years. He admitted that he had often reminded that the distribution should be done gradually to avoid attracting the attention of the mosque security, but the warning was allegedly ignored.

"Because in the second year I already told him, 'Bro, if you want to donate the mushaf, distribute the mushaf, do it in installments of 50, 100 to the mosque. Don't do thousands all at once like that. The police see this, and it affects friends who are in Makkah-Madinah who stay, they are the ones working here,'" Randy said again.

Randy hopes that anyone who wants to donate will be more careful in choosing the distributor. He suggests that pilgrims performing umrah should buy the Qur'an themselves to know the original price and be able to distribute it directly without going through services that take a large profit.

"Whoever is performing Umrah can perhaps buy it themselves to know the price. I always convey it like that. But if you send it through us as a service or a mutawif or whatever, we don't take much profit, only maybe Rp10,000 per mushaf or something, not up to Rp150,000," he concluded.
