The seventh film of One Piece follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Crew on Mecha Island, a island filled with advanced technology, with the goal of treasure hunting. However, their arrival triggers a feud with Ratchet, a tyrannical ruler who is ambitious to conquer the world. This film is often considered the worst due to its weak story, the villain being poorly characterized, and Luffy's portrayal as overly selfish. Additionally, the fanservice is deemed excessive.

Many important elements from the original story, such as Ace and the Marines, are cut shorter. As a compilation film, its duration is too short, resulting in many essential parts being missing. This has disappointed fans with this eighth film, even though this project marked the debut of dubbing by Funimation for One Piece.

Clockwork Island has the distinctive charm of early One Piece adventures, and some of its animation scenes are considered quite good for a 2000s anime film. However, the story is too simple, which does not provide a truly memorable experience.
