Rano Karno Remembers Acting in a Film with the Late Mieke Wijaya, Who Was Like a Mother to Him

Kapanlagi.com - Senior artist Mieke Wijaya passed away on Tuesday (3/5/2022) at around 7:30 pm WIB. Not only her family, but also her friends felt the loss of the 83-year-old actress, including actor Rano Karno. The actor who played Doel in the Si Doel Anak Sekolahan soap opera admitted that he learned of Mieke Wijaya's passing from a WhatsApp group message.
 
"To be honest, I found out about this sad news in the group (that Mieke Wijaya passed away), and as soon as I heard it, we cross-checked and it turned out to be true. So, we also mourned her loss," said Rano Karno at the funeral home in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/5/2022).

1. Mieke Was Hospitalized for 45 Days

Before taking her last breath, Mieke Wijaya had been hospitalized for 45 days due to cancer. As a friend, Rano Karno admitted that he was surprised to learn that the actress had been hospitalized for more than a month.

"What surprised me personally was that she was in the hospital for almost 45 days, but if I heard from Mbak Nia, it was actually the best thing, she was in her 80s and had an undetected cancer," said Rano Karno.

"All of us in the senior artist community share our condolences, but because it's still the third day of Eid, maybe not everyone is present yet," added Rano Karno.

Rano Karno is one of the people who knew Mieke Wijaya closely. In fact, Rano Karno considered Mieke Wijaya as his own mother.

"I know Aunt Mieke, actually I call her Mama, when I was little with Uncle Dicky, her husband, Dicky Zulkarnaen, Mama Mieke became my grandmother when I played in a movie," said Rano Karno.

Rano Karno also expressed that there was a memory that he would never forget when acting with Mieke Wijaya. However, in the real world, Mieke was not like her character in front of the camera.

"I was very impressed when playing a scene with her. She was famous for her antagonist role, she was an extraordinary person. Mama Mieke is a good person. That's why Nia said she never got angry, it's true, sorry not to judge based on physical appearance, she's firm but actually very gentle," said Rano Karno.

"Yes, I know Nia since she was a child, meaning I am quite familiar with Uncle Dicky M's family, with Aunt Mieke, I feel quite lost, we will definitely meet again, it's just a matter of time," concluded Rano Karno.

Mieke Wijaya is an actress born in Bandung, West Java on March 17, 1939. Throughout her career in the acting world, Mieke Wijaya has been nominated for several awards including three Citra Festival Film Indonesia awards and won all of them.

Mieke Wijaya is also famous for her role in the movie TIGA DARA. In addition, she has been involved in numerous soap operas and feature films.
