Ray Sahetapy Passes Away, Long Struggle Until He Almost Died Previously

The art world of the homeland mourns the passing of Ray Sahetapy who passed away on Tuesday (1/4/2025) night at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital (RSPAD). His passing leaves a deep sorrow for family and relatives, including Charly Sahetapy who has been accompanying Rey in his struggle against his illness.

"He had complications. He was admitted to the hospital on the 3rd, and I took him to the hospital. Then he was examined here and there, and it was indeed his time. We had tried everything to make him recover, but God had other plans. He finally went back," said Charly when met at the Sentosa funeral home (Gatot Subroto) Block C, Wednesday (2/4/2025).

Ray had been struggling with diabetes since 2017. Additionally, his condition worsened after suffering a stroke in June-July 2023. The family had worked hard to care for him to recover, but his health continued to decline.

"He was no longer conscious. Actually, it’s like this, Ray had diabetes for quite a long time since 2017. Then maybe you have seen that he was walking abnormally and lacked the enthusiasm he used to have," explained Charly.

"He had two episodes of shortness of breath, also here at RSPAD, went back into the ICU, being monitored. But then they had to suction more than 2 liters of fluid from his lungs. He started to return to normal, but his hemoglobin kept dropping, and his blood pressure was also severe. When God calls, what can we do?" he said.
