Razman Nasution's Side Walks Out, Hotman Paris Says No Law Violated

The verdict session for the defamation case with the defendant Razman Arif Nasution was marked by drama when his legal team decided to walk out of the courtroom. This action was taken as a protest because the panel of judges continued to read the verdict despite Razman’s absence.

In response to this, Hotman Paris Hutapea as the complainant stated that the actions of the panel of judges were in accordance with the applicable legal procedures. According to him, there were no rules violated in the reading of the verdict.

"Well, he is his legal counsel. According to the Law on Judicial Power and also according to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) article 214, a verdict may be read even if the defendant is not present because the examination has been completed," he stated when met at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (30/09/2025).

Hotman explained that since all stages of witness examination and evidence presentation have been completed, the defendant's presence during the reading of the verdict is no longer mandatory. This rule, according to Hotman, is explicitly stated in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP)."That's allowed. There's nothing being violated, it's perfectly fine," he asserted.

Therefore, Hotman believes that the reasons given by Razman's legal team for walking out do not have a strong basis. He argues that the judge has full authority to continue the trial until it is completed.

"Yes, he can walk out of the hearing, but clearly his reasons are unfounded because the judge, the panel of judges can read the verdict even if the defendant is not present because the examination of witnesses, evidence, and so on has already been completed," he explained again.

Furthermore, the lawyer nicknamed ‘King of Bankruptcy’ also highlighted Razman's history, which he believes often causes a stir in court. This is what he believes makes many judges feel irritated.

"What is clear is that I am sure almost all judges are angry with him because he once shouted in front of the courtroom saying 'corruptor, corruptor, corruptor.' If that were abroad, he would have been in prison within hours," he stated.
