Received News of Father's Death While Teaching, Dee Lestari Still Finishes Her Work

Kapanlagi.com - Writer and singer Dewi Lestari, also known as Dee Lestari, is mourning. Her father, Yohan Simangunsong, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Dee Lestari revealed that she received news of her father's passing while she was in the middle of a teaching session.

"I was working, about to start teaching a writing workshop for a government institution, and that's when, maybe half a second before I was about to go down to the venue, I read it," said Dee Lestari at the funeral home of RSPAD, Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, on Friday (2/1/2024).

1. Stay Focused Despite Mourning

Even in a grieving situation, Dee Lestari remains focused on finishing her work. She mentioned that her father was the type of parent who strongly disliked half-hearted work.

"This is perhaps one thing I learned from my father, he really doesn't like people who do things half-heartedly, and he is very pragmatic and logical," said Dee Lestari.

"So sometimes when I'm in a situation like 'what should I do, should I work first or do something else?' 'Prioritize work first, it will be easier for us to meet and talk again later.' Sometimes when my father calls and I'm working, he says 'oh it's okay, continue and finish your work first'," she added.

2. Buried in Hometown

Currently, Dee Lestari's father's body is being kept at the funeral home of RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, Central Jakarta. The plan is to bury her father on Sunday, February 4, 2024 in North Sumatra.

"He did want to be buried in his hometown in Balige, North Sumatra. So, my mother and family will accompany him to his final resting place where there is already a family grave. He was the one who built it, there is already my grandfather, my late biological mother, and my father's sibling, so it has been prepared," she concluded.
