However, recently Ivan Gunawan caught attention for receiving a written reprimand from KPI regarding his appearance which was considered "feminine".
"The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has imposed a first written administrative sanction in the form of a reprimand for the TV program 'Brownis' on Trans TV. The program was found to feature scenes that normalize men adopting feminine styles shown to the public. This is considered a violation of ethics and norms as stated in the Broadcasting Behavior Guidelines and Program Standards (P3 and SPS) of KPI in 2012. The violation occurred on October 30, 2023 at 12.38 PM local time, in the appearance of Ivan Gunawan using clothing, makeup, accessories, and feminine body language," wrote KPI Pusat.
Seeing the written reprimand mentioning his name, Ivan Gunawan did not stay silent. The super mega star immediately responded in the comment section of the Instagram post from KPI Pusat.
"Why don't you reprimand Haji Roma Irama for wearing a hat and a scarf???" said Ivan Gunawan, who received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments from netizens on social media.
"Put a fashion person in your office so that they understand about appearances... besides, appearance is a person's right, why is TV concerned about people's appearances," he added, accompanied by a series of angry face emojis.
Not stopping there, Ivan Gunawan also uploaded a post dedicated to responding to the reprimand and explaining his views on fashion.
"As a professional fashion designer for 20 years, it feels inappropriate to me that what I wear is commented on by an institution that only adheres to traditional thinking of what men's and women's clothing should be... Fashion is not like that... fashion is how you describe who you are, fashion has no limits, fashion is creativity // maybe I live in a country that until today doesn't want to accept fashion freedom, we are still bound by rules. Yes, I was wrong, wanting to show off on the fashion stage instead of television, so all this time I was in the wrong place," wrote Ivan Gunawan.
