Kapanlagi.com - The South Jakarta Religious Court has rejected Paula Verhoeven's counterclaim regarding iddah and madya alimony from Baim Wong. This decision is based on important findings by the panel of judges during the trial process.
The spokesperson for the South Jakarta Religious Court, Suryana, explained that Paula was proven to have committed nusyuz or disobedience against her husband based on evidence and testimony in court.
"With the evidence of a third party in their household, the respondent is declared as a disobedient wife who neglects her duties and ultimately does not uphold her honor as a wife," said Suryana when met at the South Jakarta Religious Court on Wednesday (16/4/2025).
Suryana stated that due to the nusyuz status, the panel of judges rejected all claims for iddah and madya maintenance from the respondent. This refers to the Compilation of Islamic Law.
"So when it is said to be proven nusyuz, then she has no rights," continued Suryana.
Nevertheless, the court still granted a mut'ah of Rp 1 billion to Paula. This is in accordance with the provisions of Article 149 letter (a) of the Compilation of Islamic Law which states that a wife is still entitled to mut'ah even if declared nusyuz.
"The panel of judges only granted the mut'ah," revealed Suryana.
In her counterclaim, Paula previously demanded madya maintenance of Rp 800 million and iddah maintenance of Rp 600 million. She also demanded mut'ah of Rp 3 billion and child support of Rp 80 million per month.
However, after considering the evidence and testimonies, the panel of judges only approved one point from the counterclaim, namely the mut'ah. This decision can still change if either party files an appeal before the decision becomes legally binding.
