Rio Dewanto Vs Reza Rahadian in the Film 'JUSTICE', An Indonesia-Korea Collaboration Addressing Heavy Issues

The Indonesian film industry will be enlivened again by a major project that brings together two top actors, Rio Dewanto and Reza Rahadian. Through the drama-thriller film titled JUSTICE (THE VERDICT), both will act together in a story that raises issues of corruption and the struggle for truth.

This film tells the story of Raka (Rio Dewanto), an honest court security officer, whose heart is troubled by the law's bluntness towards the powerful and its sharpness against the weak. The climax occurs when his pregnant wife becomes a victim of a brutal crime protected by a cunning lawyer named Timo (Reza Rahadian).

What makes this film even more special is its status as a collaborative project between Indonesian and South Korean filmmakers. Directed by Lee Chang-hee alongside Yusron Fuadi, this film promises a different standard of production. Rio Dewanto also shares his experiences working within this joint production system.

"What we learn and they learn as well with our production," said Rio Dewanto when met at MD Place, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Wednesday (20/8/2025).

The shooting process that took place for a full month in Indonesia certainly has its own challenges, one of which is the language barrier. The 37-year-old actor admits there is a slight pause when communicating because it has to go through a translator.

"Like every time we want to talk, there is always a translator, so it’s a bit delayed, but it’s not a big problem," explained the husband of Atiqah Hasiholan.

In terms of theme, KEADILAN (THE VERDICT) presents an issue that according to Rio is very relevant and will always exist in society. He does not deny that this film has quite heavy and profound dialogues.

"Yes, actually the story itself is quite common, meaning it fights for justice. Because this issue will always exist in society, no matter how long," he said.

Nevertheless, Rio Dewanto is optimistic that this film will be well received by Indonesian audiences, who he believes are becoming more intelligent and ready for quality entertainment. The film JUSTICE (THE VERDICT) is scheduled to be released simultaneously in theaters on November 20, 2025.

The character Raka, played by him, is portrayed as a reflection of the marginalized community who is forced to take extreme measures when faced with a solid wall of injustice. A character transformation that is guaranteed to drain the audience's emotions.

"He himself experienced the incident, so he had to do things that might violate the rules but to fight for the existing justice," concluded Rio.
