Kapanlagi.com - Rosmawaty Ginting tells the story of how she married the famous lawyer Hotma Sitompul. Their meeting happened when they were still studying in the same university.
"We were in the same campus. It's normal for guys to pursue (me), he was very sweet to me," said Rosmawaty Ginting during a press conference in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Friday (29/6).
Due to their different beliefs, Rosmawaty Ginting initially politely rejected Hotma Sitompul's love. However, Hotma Sitompul didn't back down and didn't see it as a problem because he also came from a family with different beliefs.
"I told him that I am a Muslim so that he wouldn't pursue me, but he said 'it's okay, my mother is also a Muslim'," said Rosmawaty Ginting.
Rosmawaty Ginting had a relationship with Hotma Sitompul until eventually Rosmawaty Ginting's family found out and opposed the relationship.
"My family didn't approve, at that time I happened to live on Sultan Sahid Street with my sister, my mother was in Medan," said Rosmawaty Ginting.
Rosmawaty Ginting's family finally decided to bring their child back to their hometown in Medan. Knowing this, Hotma Sitompul immediately asked her to marry him.
"Well, because I wanted to be taken to Medan, it was a very young age. I said 'I want to be taken to Medan' and he took care of everything, including the civil registry. So we got married," recalled Rosmawaty Ginting.
"We got married at Masjid Agung, Medan on October 8, 1975. At that time, the witnesses were from Hotma's side, Agus, his cousin, and then his younger sibling," continued Rosmawaty Ginting.
A commotion occurred when Rosmawaty Ginting was pregnant with Hotma Sitompul's child. She was forced to sign a statement letter to follow Hotma Sitompul's belief, and eventually Rosmawaty Ginting chose her own belief.
"Then, when they found out I was pregnant, I was forced to make a statement letter stating that me and my unborn child must become Christians, it's a must. If I don't follow, I won't have anyone. But I still fought for my child because I had done everything before. But for this (religion) and my belief," she concluded.
