Sam Raimi, Director of 'SPIDER-MAN', Officially Works on 'DOCTOR STRANGE 2'

Kapanlagi.com - Good news for Marvel fans, especially Doctor Strange fans. After several months, MCU officially announced Sam Raimi as the director of DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS or DOCTOR STRANGE 2.

For movie fans, the name Sam Raimi might not be unfamiliar. Sam Raimi's name became known to the public since his horror film EVIL DEAD. And his name soared even higher after directing the SPIDER-MAN trilogy starring Tobey Mcguire.

1. Like Doctor Strange Character

Sam Raimi replaces Scott Derickson, who resigned in January 2020. According to Comicbook.com, Raimi talked about his involvement in the film DOCTOR STRANGE 2.

It all started with an accidental incident, when Sam Raimi mentioned one scene in the film SPIDER-MAN 2. And in that story, he mentioned the name Doctor Strange.

"I have liked Doctor Strange since I was little. But for me, he has always been under Spider-Man and Batman. He (Doctor Strange) might be number five on my list of the best comic book characters," said Sam Raimi quoted from Comicbook.com, Wednesday (15/4).

2. Production Delay

The production of the second sequel DOCTOR STRANGE IN MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS was supposed to be scheduled for a few weeks in the summer. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Disney Studio have decided to postpone the production schedule. 

With the delay in production schedule, the release schedule has also been pushed back. The film, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was initially planned to be released in May 2021, but due to Covid-19, it has been postponed to November 2021.
