Shenina Cinnamon Admits to Having Experienced Sexual Violence, Representing the Voices of Survivors through 'PENYALIN CAHAYA'

Kapanlagi.com - The involvement of actress Shenina Cinnamon in PENYALIN CAHAYA is not only about interest in character and story. But there is a special mission behind Wregas Bhanuteja's film.

The drama, which recently won twelve Citra Awards at the Indonesian Film Festival, apparently wants to voice two things. Namely, sexual violence and the underestimated equality.

"According to me, this issue must be discussed, about sexual violence. I really want to voice it and moreover, there are many issues about sexual violence that cannot be discussed legally. So I really want to voice it through the film," said Shenina when met at JCC Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday night (10/11/2021).

1. Becoming a Victim of Sexual Violence

Furthermore, Shenina Cinnamon revealed that she had been a victim of physical sexual violence. Through this film, she wants survivors out there who are not brave enough to speak up to not feel alone. If needed, she will provide support.

"It's a bit tricky to answer because, yup, personally I have experienced it. The types may vary, but I have experienced one of the many forms of sexual violence. So here, I can understand the trauma and how to convey those feelings. I represent the voice of survivors of sexual violence who may not be able to speak up," said Shenina.

"I want people out there to know what survivors of sexual violence feel, maybe even to that extent and more. In my opinion, we need to know that. Especially since the law in Indonesia has not demanded enough accountability from the perpetrators," she emphasized.
