Singing Skills Considered Insufficient, Label Wanted to Replace Duta as Sheila On 7 Vocalist

Kapanlagi.com - Anton Widiastanto, former drummer of Sheila On 7, reappeared after a long absence. Anton's reappearance answered the public's curiosity about his current activities. Not only that, the reason for his departure from Duta and the others was finally revealed.

Anton stated that he was forced to leave. The decision was made unilaterally by the management without discussing it with him. After that, Anton was traumatized by music to the point where he often felt nauseous when seeing drums.

Another fact that is not widely known and revealed by Anton is about Duta, who actually wanted to be replaced from his position as Sheila On 7's vocalist.

1. Label Wants to Replace Duta

According to Anton's account, at that time the proposal to replace Duta came just before Sheila on 7's first album was released.

"So back then, it was a little further back to the first album. After we finished recording before the album was released, we were invited to a meeting, Mr. Jan (Sheila on 7's first producer) and the four of us except Duta," said Anton as quoted from the medcom id youtube account.

"So Mr. Jan wanted, if possible, to replace Duta. That's how it was back then. Please ask Mr. Jan himself, or the other Sheila members," he added.

2. Reasons for Wanting to Replace

Anton revealed that the reason Duta wanted to be replaced was because his singing ability was considered not good enough.

"(Because of) his singing skill. So we had a meeting back then, we still tried to make it work, Duta could still be specifically assigned to sing before the release, Mr. Jan was still okay with it. Eventually, as time went on, his singing skill developed," explained Anton.
