Starring Refal Hady, 'Love Never Comes on Time' Can Be Watched in Theaters Starting February 13, 2025

Love Never Comes on Time by the filmmaker who has won 2 Citra Awards, Hanung Bramantyo, will be showing in theaters starting February 13, 2025. This film brings together stars from different generations, from Refal Hady, Nadya Arina, Carissa Perusset, Rangga Nattra, to Malaysian actress, Mira Filzah. Love Never Comes on Time also features living legends Slamet Raharjo, Dewi Irawan, and the Indonesian film icon, Meriam Belina.

The film tells the story of Daku Ramala (Refal Hady) who has been dating Nadya (Nadya Arina) for five years. However, he is not ready when Nadya's parents ask for their relationship to be formalized into marriage. Afterwards, Daku, who works as a writer, falls in love with Anya (Carissa Perusset). Once again, Daku hesitates when challenged to commit more seriously. Daku returns to Rembang, Central Java, and then meets Doctor Sarah (Mira Filzah) who patiently cares for his mother (Dewi Irawan). A seed of love then grows. Will Daku and Sarah's love be on the right timeline?

1. About My Character

Love Never Comes at the Right Time marks the first time Refal Hady collaborates with Hanung Bramantyo. The character Daku Ramala was shaped by Hanung Bramantyo together with scriptwriter Haqi Achmad based on the foundation laid by the author of the novel Love Never Comes at the Right Time, Puthut EA. Portraying Daku, who is complex and cannot escape from his past, is acknowledged by Refal Hady as not an easy task.

"From the look, (Mas Hanung asked me) to try to be someone who doesn’t care much about appearance. Focus on writing. No need for validation, just think about the work and the work. It's different from Refal Hady who faces the demands of caring very much about appearance," said Refal Hady regarding the role of Daku, in Jakarta, recently.

"“This is Daku. We don’t know what’s in his head. What makes a child from a good family, with harmonious parents, have a fear of commitment. But out there, there are many children like Daku," he added.

2. Refal Hady Learns from the Character Daku

Daku taught Refal Hady many valuable lessons. Reflecting on Daku's character, he learned to forgive himself, take time to look back, and check what mistakes have been made and then correct them.

"From this film, I now have more time each year for self-evaluation, 'What if I am like Daku?'. I don’t want all my problems to pile up, without recognizing the feelings I have. That’s what I learned from Love Never Comes at the Right Time. I need to mature more through what I am going through now,” said Refal Hady, drawing wisdom.

3. Many Are Represented by Daku

Meanwhile, Rangga Nattra is optimistic that Love Never Comes at the Right Time, produced by Dapur Film, Seven Skies Motion, and K Studio, will be warmly welcomed by the audience. In this film, he plays Manu, a young director from Bali who is starting his career in Java. Manu lives in a rented house in Yogyakarta with Daku.

"The issues are close to today’s society. Many people feel represented by Daku or the girls around Daku," said Rangga Nattra in his review.

4. Rangga Nattra About Director Hanung Bramantyo

This is the second time Rangga Nattra has collaborated with Hanung Bramantyo. The actor admitted to being impressed with Hanung Bramantyo's performance on set.

"If it's A, then it's A. If it's B, then it's B. So, working with Mas Hanung is enjoyable. We understand what’s in his mind. He also gets into our frequency. The way he directs Refal and me is different. Each character has its own treatment. The goal is to connect quickly and make the shooting more efficient," Rangga Nattra shared his impressions.
