Story of Terry Putri Living in the US After Marriage, Admitting It's Not Easy Until Crying in the Bathroom

Presenter Terry Putri has made a big decision in her life by settling in the United States (US) after marrying Derly Darmawan. It has been a year since they decided to live together in Uncle Sam's country. However, Terry Putri admits that living in America as a hijab-wearing woman is not easy.

The difficulties mainly lie in finding halal food. In addition, she also has to face the fact that she does not have close family there.

"Living in America is not as easy as it seems. Wearing a hijab there is not easy, finding halal food is not easy, and I don't have anyone except my husband," said Terry Putri when met at the Tosari bus stop, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2/10/2023).

Despite facing many difficulties, Terry Putri remains committed to living her life in America. "Looking at the sadness, there is a lot, but I have to endure and live it because I have made a commitment," said Terry Putri.

Apparently, in the early days of her stay in America, Terry felt uncomfortable. In fact, Terry Putri admitted that she often cried and expressed her emotions in the bathroom.

"I cried continuously for the first three months. If I cried in front of my husband, I felt sorry for him, so I ended up crying in the bedroom or bathroom," Terry Putri said.

However, Derly, her husband, tried his best to calm and support Terry. Derly made every effort to help Terry in their journey of hijrah together.

"But my husband knew and eventually strengthened me. Let's do it together because he's also going through hijrah again, so he asked us to go through this hijrah process together even though we live in America," she said.

Terry admitted that she experienced culture shock when she first arrived in America. She felt scared to go to public places with her hijab on.

"I'm afraid there. If I walk like that with a hijab, I'm afraid of being shot from afar. America has many cases and incidents of shooting. I'm afraid, but it's just adaptation," Terry Putri concluded.
