Suti Karno Finds a New Calling, Now Busy Managing a Disability Foundation

After three years as a person with a disability, actress Suti Karno now dedicates her life to a noble cause. No longer active in the entertainment world, she devotes her time and energy to empowering the disability community through a foundation she established with her colleagues.

The foundation, named the Indonesian Disability Solidarity Foundation (YASDI), was officially established last April. Through this foundation, Suti Karno is determined to provide a platform for people with disabilities so that the general public becomes more aware of the extraordinary abilities they possess.

"Coincidentally, I've been a person with a disability for 3 years, right? So, I am getting closer to children with disabilities. That's why I have a foundation. It's called the Indonesian Disability Solidarity Foundation," said Suti Karno when met in the Kapten Tendean area of South Jakarta recently.

"Where we operate in the disability field, I provide opportunities for children, my colleagues to perform in public so that the public becomes more aware of them, that they are capable," added Suti Karno.

This is not a sudden decision; Rano Karno's younger sibling revealed that establishing a foundation has been a long-time dream of theirs.

If in the past they aspired to build an orphanage for orphans, now their focus has shifted to creating a platform for children with disabilities after they directly engaged and interacted with them.

"Yes, actually, it's like this. I used to really want to have an orphanage, I really wanted to have a foundation. But back then, we only knew about orphans, because that's what most of us were familiar with. After I interacted with children with disabilities, I really wanted to have a place for children with disabilities," they said.

Although still in its infancy, YASDI, founded by eleven people, has been trusted to collaborate with several government agencies. Suti Karno himself serves as a mentor in the foundation.

"There are friends, you know. We are eleven. Yes. We are eleven people. Eh, one of us, I am the mentor, not the leader. One of my mentors is also from Jayabaya University, Mrs. Yulia. And we will have our office at Jayabaya University, like that," she explained.

For him, limited physical conditions do not stop his steps to make a positive impact. He believes that everything can be done if it is based on a sincere intention from the heart.

"Yes, we must be very grateful, always grateful. That this, eh, my leg being amputated does not stop, eh, my movement. Although I don't have a leg, I still move with my heart," he concluded.
