Teach Children to Fast Without 'Rewards', Risty Tagor: Understanding Its Essence is More Important

As a mother of three, artist Risty Tagor has her own way of instilling religious values, especially regarding fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. She claims to have a special method to encourage her children to fast based on understanding, not because of the promise of rewards.

Risty believes that teaching the essence and meaning behind an act of worship is far more important than simply offering rewards as motivation. For her, fasting is not a competition that should come with material rewards at the end, but rather a deep spiritual learning process for children. Here are the details.

"I don't want to promise a reward or anything, but there is a deeper essence of Ramadan that I want to share with them," said Risty Tagor in the Ampera area, South Jakarta, a while ago.

This principle is applied so that her children, Arkana Rafif, Arsen Raffa, and Cylla, understand the main purpose of fasting. This way, they will get used to doing it sincerely and consciously, not because they expect something in return.

The parenting method that Risty applies seems to yield sweet results. She proudly shares that her school-aged children are now observing fasting well.

"And thank God, the children who are now in school are all fasting," she said with a beaming face.

This success certainly brings a special happiness for Risty. She always strives to be a good example, including actively participating in positive activities such as sharing with others.

For Risty, what children see from their parents will reflect their behavior in the future. Therefore, she never tires of showing the importance of kindness and worship in daily life.

Her attitude shows that early religious education, which focuses on meaning, can shape a child's character to be strong and sincere in worship.
