Although the legal process related to the song Nuansa Bening with the late Vidi Aldiano has been requested to be halted, Keenan Nasution's side issued a strong warning. They emphasized that this does not automatically grant other singers the freedom to perform the song commercially without permission.
Keenan's attorney, Minola Sebayang, stated that the cessation of the Vidi case is a separate legal event and does not change the rules under the Copyright Law.
"It's not because of the legal process that Vidi Aldiano's case was cassated, this late individual, we withdraw and stop it, which means it allows people to use the song commercially without permission. Those are two different things," said Minola Sebayang during a virtual interview on Wednesday (25/03/2026).
According to him, the regulation requiring permission from the creator for commercial use of a song still applies to anyone."So it still applies that anyone who wants to use the song "Nuansa Bening" or other songs created by our client commercially must request permission and also settle the economic rights of our client," he emphasized.
This warning applies to all platforms, including singers who cover songs on YouTube for commercial purposes. Minola, who is also a music producer, exemplified that he always asks for permission from the creator when covering someone else's song.
"There should be permission. I am also a song producer... I still ask for permission from the creator," he said.
When asked about his client's attitude towards other singers like Ahmad Dhani who also performed the song, Minola mentioned that it would be a case-by-case basis.
"Who says there is no (possibility of targeting other singers)? This is a case-by-case situation. This violation allegedly committed by the deceased is clearly stopped. It does not mean giving freedom to everyone to do the same things," he concluded.
This statement is a strong signal that Keenan Nasution will remain consistent in fighting for the economic and moral rights over his works.
