The Song Was Performed at the Peterpan Concert, Ariel NOAH Said This About the Copyright of His Work

The return of Peterpan to the Indonesian music scene with the concert "The Journey Continues" on August 31, 2025, raises many questions, one of which is about song licensing. In response to this, Ariel NOAH, as one of the main creators of Peterpan's hit songs, provides a clear and straightforward explanation.

Ariel stated that Lukman and the others no longer need to ask for permission directly from him to perform those songs. According to him, the royalty system in Indonesia currently has a clear mechanism through the Collective Management Institution (LMK).

"Yes, it's actually in line with our struggle. So there's no need to ask for permission from me anymore. Just pay directly to LMK later," said Ariel when met at the Constitutional Court, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (22/7/2025).

However, the vocalist of the band NOAH provided an important note. The rule only applies if Peterpan's songs are performed according to their original version. If there are changes to the lyrics or arrangements, then the mechanism will be different because it concerns the moral rights of the creator.

"Unless there are indeed changes in the song. If the lyrics are changed, the order of the arrangements is changed, that is called moral rights. Things like that actually fall under mechanical rights. Well, that really has to be directly related to the creator or publishing," said Ariel.

This explanation about copyright becomes very relevant because Ariel himself has confirmed that he will not participate in the reunion concert. He has a very strong reason, which is to maintain his band's hiatus commitment, NOAH, so that it does not lose its essence. He also elaborated on his reasons clearly.

"Coincidentally, NOAH is currently on hiatus. This version of Peterpan has Lukman. If I also join in singing, the hiatus of NOAH would be over, so I can't participate," he said.

Although absent, Ariel actually has an important role behind the scenes in the realization of this concert. He clarified that he is not the one who ordered the reunion, but rather the one who proposed the idea. This idea emerged as a solution to the many requests for him to perform solo with old songs.

"Actually, if I were to put it plainly, I didn't ask them to come back, it's not like that. But when there's an idea, I kind of recommend it. There are actually requests for me to sing, but I said I can't," he said.

special that can cure the longing of the fans. This charismatic vocalist sees it as a smart and fun alternative. Here’s the story when he threw out the idea.

"It's just that if you want to cure the longing of Petepan or NOAH fans, it seems there’s another alternative. That's why I told Lukman, 'Lukman, it seems like it would be fun to do this'. So that's more or less the story," said Ariel.

Ariel also fully supports this project, especially because he sees it as an effective way to please the fans. With guest vocalists changing, he hopes this concert can provide a new experience for Peterpan music enthusiasts.

"But I really support it, because it treats Peterpan's fans during NOAH's hiatus. Even though the vocalists keep changing, hopefully it can heal their longing," explained Ariel.

On the other hand, NOAH's two-year hiatus has indeed made their fans anxious. Ariel admits that he has received many requests for NOAH to return to the stage soon. He also fully understands the longing of his fans.

"Well, from Peterpan fans, NOAH fans are like, 'why aren't you performing anymore, it's been 2 years already.' Yes, there are many requests to perform again," he said.

As a conclusion, Ariel signaled that NOAH will return after there is a new work to present. He emphasized that their main focus right now is to finish the new album before finally greeting the fans on stage.

"We just want to focus on the new album, once the new album is out, then we will perform again," he concluded.
