Becoming a grandfather in the modern era has surprisingly provided a new experience for Tora Sudiro. This senior actor admits he is often astonished by the differences in parenting styles of today’s children compared to when he raised his daughters in the past.

Tora recounts some new habits that his daughter, Nabila, has implemented with her child. One of the things that confuses him the most is the prohibition against applying baby powder to a baby's face after a bath, which was very common in his time.

"No, because the thinking of kids today is different from mine. For example, nowadays it's a simple thing, right after a bath, the face is not to be powdered. That is not allowed now. In the past, it was okay. Right?" he said when met at MD Place, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday (15/12/2025).

In addition to discussing powder, Tora also highlighted the current feeding schedule for babies, which he thinks is very different from the more flexible parenting style of the past. Back then, children ate when they felt hungry without a specific schedule.

He compared the old habits with the current situation, where babies must be woken up according to a specific feeding schedule to meet their daily nutritional intake, even though sometimes the child is still sound asleep.

"Always eat at set times. At this hour, they must be woken up to eat, must be woken up to eat. Back in the day, if you were hungry, you ate. Children back then just lived their lives. That’s the point, there is a difference," he added.

Although he finds it strange, Tora chooses not to protest or argue much with his child. He realizes that parenting knowledge continues to evolve along with the latest medical research.

Tora also has a unique plan for his grandson who has started entering the phase of Complementary Foods to Breast Milk (MPASI). Jokingly, he wants to invite his grandson to enjoy typical Indonesian cuisine that is "down to earth".

"Sederhana. The Sederhana Padang restaurant seems to be a great MPASI. Crazy. He will enjoy the beauty of the Sederhana stall and fried Indomie. The baby eats fried Indomie. Wow, that's crazy, I can imagine it," he said.
