Unveiled! Often Portraying Ghost Characters, the Late Suzzanna Once Protested to the Producer

Kapanlagi.com - The late Suzzanna is known as the Queen of Horror because she often starred in horror films with various characters. On one occasion, the owner of the birth name Suzzanna Martha Frederika Van Osch protested to the producer because she was often involved in scary films.

The reason is that the actress was asked to portray the character of Sundel Bolong in four productions of Soraya Intercine Films. Therefore, she lodged a protest with the producer, Ram Soraya, the father of Sunil and Rocky Soraya.

"I remember Suzzanna once said to Mr. Ram, 'I'm tired of playing Sundel Bolong. I'm tired of being a ghost. Find something else, like comedy or something'," recalled Clift Sangra, her husband, when met at the office of Soraya Intercine Films, in the KH Wahid Hasyim area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (30/1/2020).

1. Producer's Response

Knowing that her favorite actress protested, Ram Soraya gave an explanation. Until Suzzanna's wish was granted with her involvement in the film SANTET directed by Naryono Prayitno.

"Then Mister Ram said: 'Suzz, it's not appropriate for you to play comedy. You're suitable for horror, don't deviate from that'. Suzzanna replied 'Alright, but find another (character) for me'. Then Mister Ram said 'Okay, we'll find, we'll discuss'," continued Clift.

2. Starring in the Film 'SANTET'

Because of that request, Suzzanna was given a role in the film SANTET released in 1988. In the film, she played the character named Katemi, who possessed black magic that was equally terrifying.

"Finally, Suzzanna got a role in the film SANTET. Wow, she was genuinely happy. I remember how happy she was," said Clift.

Now, 32 years later, from the same production house, a loose adaptation of SANTET titled SUZZANNA: SANTET ILMU PELEBUR NYAWA was made. Luna Maya was chosen to portray the iconic character of Suzzanna once again. Luna was considered very successful in portraying the late actress when she starred in SUZZANNA: BERNAPAS DALAM KUBUR in 2018.
