DA Asia 6 Champion, The Story of Melly Lee Who Was Once Forbidden to Become a Dangdut Singer - Told to Go to Boarding School by Her Father

Apparently, it happened because her father, who is a Quran teacher, wanted Melly, his daughter, to continue her education at a Islamic boarding school.

At that time, Melly herself rejected her father's desire, not because she didn't want to learn at the pesantren but because she didn't want to be far from her mother.

"So, my father is a Quran teacher until now, so I learn about religion from him. When my father found out that I sing dangdut, he didn't like it because he wanted me to enter the pesantren," said Melly Lee when met at KapanLagi Youniverse, last May.

"I didn't want to because I didn't want to be far from my mom, not because I didn't want to gain knowledge. Well, if my father didn't want it, then I don't need to become a dangdut singer," she continued.

It turns out that Melly Lee's father's prohibition was not absolute. There are special conditions that the child must fulfill if they want to pursue a career in that field. What is it? 

"No need to be a dangdut singer if it's just like that. But if it's like Lesti, it's okay, it's all from my father, my father got angry like that," she said.

After that, Melly finally proved to her father after she was declared to pass the LIDA 2020 audition. Not only passed the audition, Melly became the champion in the event.

"Then finally I reached the point where I participated in the audition and passed, and then I got support until now," she said.

Recently, Melly was crowned the first champion of D'Academy Asia 6. Melly successfully defeated Lovely from the Philippines who sat in the runner-up position. Meanwhile, Kier King, who was also a participant from the Philippines, was in the third position.

Melly's tears broke when the moment she was announced as the champion of the competition on Tuesday (5/9) night. Melly's parents witnessed how their daughter could bring honor to Indonesia in the singing competition at the Asian level.
