Singer Inul Daratista tells about the difficulties of her career journey in the Indonesian music industry. Memories of the tough times when starting her career have made her always try to share with street musicians.
Inul Daratista mentioned that she always prepares cash in her bag to give to the street musicians she encounters. She does it routinely every time she goes out.
"I do like giving money to street musicians, every day," said Inul when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, Friday (19/7/2024).
This good habit is Inul's form of empathy towards those who struggle on the streets. Especially when meeting street musicians, it always reminds her of the past when she was still struggling.
"I didn't have anything back then, I used to work at a dangdut cafe, starting at 8 PM and going home at 2 AM, only getting paid Rp 20,000. So I sang until I was exhausted, tired, and my fee was only Rp 23,000," she reminisced.
As a form of support, Inul always prepares Rp 10 million in cash in her wallet to be distributed to street musicians. "Usually, there's Rp 10 million in my wallet to give to street musicians," Inul said.
Inul hopes that this habit of hers can provide encouragement and help lighten the burden of the street musicians she encounters. She believes that sharing is the best way to show empathy and care.
This sharing habit is also passed down to her children. Inul teaches her children to always be able to share with those in need. "The function is that if someone is begging and asking, you can't not give money. When I was a little child, there were beggars or street vendors, I told him to give money. So my child can imitate the character of the parents," she said.
 With this habit, Inul Daratista hopes that her child can grow up with a caring and generous nature, following the example she shows.
Through this simple action, Inul Daratista shows how important it is to share and help others, especially those in difficult situations.
