Staying Active at 84 Years Old, A Portrait of Jaja Miharja Who Collapsed While Busy Promoting the Song 'Corruptor'

Despite being 84 years old, senior dangdut singer Jaja Miharja still shows extraordinary passion in her work. Unfortunately, that passion recently caused her health condition to decline drastically, requiring her to be rushed to the hospital.

When met at St. Carolus Hospital in Central Jakarta on Saturday (31/5/2025), Jaja and her daughter, Vita, recounted the chronology of how her father suddenly experienced severe chills and lost consciousness after attending a dangdut event on television.

"So after the Ashar prayer, my father was shaking a lot, even after being given a bed cover, he was still freezing cold, and then the family carried him to the hospital until the emergency room here," said Vita.

Interestingly, before that incident, Jaja Mihardja was actively promoting his latest album titled Koruptor. At his old age, Jaja is still productive in writing songs, recording, and even shooting music videos with Oji, his son. "This is just for the latest album, right? The title is Koruptor. He wrote it himself, he recorded it, and he made the music video together with Oji," explained Vita.

Even though he has been using a cane to walk, Jaja still accepts several job offers, especially those that do not require him to stand for too long. According to Vita, her father really can't stay still and always wants to create.

"Yes, because there are many temptations. Because, you know, my dad is always on the spot if anything happens, he just wants to write, he can't stay still," said Jaja Mihardja.

However, his health condition needs to be a concern. Besides the diabetes he has suffered from for a long time, doctors found an infection in his respiratory tract and kidneys. Vita suspects the causes include his lifestyle and social interactions that are too open. "When we are outside, we don't know, right? There are people meeting, getting close, sticking together, and my father doesn't want to refuse anyone who wants to take photos and everything," explained Vita.

Jaja is also known not to pay much attention to his diet. He admits he still loves indulging in his favorite foods like goat and durian, even though he should avoid them because of his diabetes."Dad loves goat, durian, but not the meat, just the head, that's delicious, it gets to the brain, wow," said Jaja Mihardja.

Even when just regaining consciousness in the ER, Jaja immediately asked for soto even though he was still weak with medical equipment attached."In the ER right after regaining consciousness, we were waiting for his room like this, shoo shoo, soto please, asking for soto even while using equipment," reminisced Vita with a small laugh.

Even though he has to reduce stage activities, Jaja Mihardja's spirit in the arts has never dimmed. The family hopes that with proper rest and care, the legend can recover and continue to inspire."Yes, just pray, those who care, pray for dad to recover, so he can have activities again, and create songs again. Please pray for us," hoped Vita.
