However, this was rarely shown in front of the public. Here is the story of Liam Payne, who had been facing mental health challenges for a long time before his passing at the age of 31, on October 16, 2024.
Liam Payne is known to have long struggled with alcohol addiction and the mental health issues he faced.
As one of the members of the famous band One Direction at the time, he felt overwhelmed by all the activities and dealing with the issues within himself.
The former One Direction singer previously explained that he consumed alcoholic beverages to cope with the stress of One Direction's huge success.
He once told Men's Health Australia that 'it's hard to have the level of fame that we have in the band'.
"There are many people who struggle with mental health but don't really get the help they need, and I think that's a bit of a problem in our industry," he said in Men's Health Australia in 2019.
Liam mentioned that he had thoughts of suicide while being a member of One Direction, when interviewed on The Diary of a CEO podcast in 2021.
The man born in 1993 also likened the situation at that time to wearing a Disney costume. When he went on stage, it felt like he was wearing a mask and a Disney costume.
He admitted to often getting drunk because there was no other way to understand what was happening. "I mean, it was fun. We were really having a good time, but there were certain parts that became a little toxic," explained Liam Payne.
In July 2023, Liam told fans that he was celebrating 6 months of sobriety after spending nearly 100 days in a rehabilitation facility in Louisiana. He felt more in control of his life at that time. He enjoyed his time off and focused on recovery.
